About
I'm Pardis Mahdavi, an author, speaker, and former university president. I've spent twenty-five years inside as an anthropologist, dean, provost, and president, and I write about the gap between the stories institutions tell and the lives we actually live inside them. In 2007 that gap got personal: I was pulled off stage mid-lecture in and held for 33 days.
Today I lead and write The Story Gap, a weekly Substack. I'm the author of seven books. I live in Arizona, where I ride horses and write.
Ask me about the day the morality police walked into my lecture in , and what it taught me about courage and home.
