Founded in 1856, Lowell High School is the oldest public high school west of the Mississippi. It is ranked as one of the highest performing public high schools in California, offering a rigorous curriculum with honors and Advanced Placement courses, a large Visual and Performing Arts Department, and a World Language Department with eight languages.
