About
Kensington University was a private, unaccredited distance education institution founded in 1976 by attorney Alfred Calabro in Glendale, California. It operated until 2003, with a branch in Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi from 1996. The institution had no physical campus (no classrooms, laboratories, or dorms) and awarded bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. It was ordered shut down by California authorities in 1996 for lacking credible academic standards and was closed by a Hawaiʻi court order in 2003. The university reported graduating over 7,000 students by 1996. Its degrees were criminalized for use in Texas under the Texas Penal Code as a misdemeanor.
