This 2017 Asia Pacific Business Review article (Nguyen, Chen & De Cremer) examines how emotional and task conflict following new product development (NPD) failure in China affect subsequent NPD, and whether voice behaviour and learning from failure mediate those relationships. Using a survey of Chinese NPD practitioners (n=320; response rate 48.93%) and SEM, the study finds emotional conflict directly reduces NPD, while task conflict affects NPD only indirectly — fully mediated by voice behaviour and learning from failure. Voice behaviour and learning from failure are identified as important mechanisms to normalize conflict and improve post-failure NPD performance.
