Mike Andes spent $5,000 on custom aluminum ramps for his lawn-care vans to keep technicians safe while loading mowers. The ramps use lightweight aluminum with a long, gentle slope and a hinge that opens smoothly, designed to work with high-top vans and straight-edge bumpers so mower decks don't catch.

I paid $5,000 for these ramps to go in the back of my vans for my lawn care business. They're aluminum and they even sing when you open them up. This allows it to be super safe for the technician when they go up to a customer's house. It's not a super heavy ramp, but it's important that it's super long. In order to have this long of a ramp, this is why we have the high top. Not only for the sake of someone taller than me not having to crouch down on the mower, but also for this ramp. To be able to be long enough so that this incline is not too steep. If it's too steep, what happens? The bottom of the deck of the mower is going to catch on this ridge. Another reason why we use this specific ramp on this specific van is because of this straight edge along the bumper. A lot of Ford vans or Sprinter vans actually have a rounded edge there, and our whole objective is to make this essentially airtight.
