quem e mau

PDF · 21 Aug 2025

This is a Portuguese translation/selection of essays by Shuichi Maida (1906–1967), presented with Brazilian and North American prefaces by Nobuo Haneda. The work interprets Shin Buddhist concepts (Shinjin, Nembutsu, Akunin/'the evil person', Dupla Ignorância, Sunyata) through examples and comparisons with Western thinkers (Goethe, Jesus, Kant) and Zen. Central themes: self-ignorance and 'double awakening' (self and Dharma), the religious value of recognizing oneself as 'mau' (evil/worst), humility, and faith born from acknowledging ignorance. The collection mixes exposition, parable, and textual commentary.
