Henning Schwinum and Shelley Perry discuss fractional sales leadership as a scaling solution. Perry, a former Insight Partners operating partner, emphasizes finding the right timing and fit for these executives.

Chapters

  1. Fireside Chad here. Welcome to our Bendux Fireside talk. Andrew, where's the fire? So Hannah and I were talking the other day about setting up a meetup group. Which city would we be in? In la, San Francisco, New York. So this came together pretty quickly, just over the last couple of weeks and it's great to see you. We're seeing familiar faces, old friends, new friends. My name is Andrew Miller. I'm one of the partners within the Vendux Group. Penning took one of the main co founders of Scoop lives in San It's a really big month for us. After six years in business, we just hit 1,000 executives on our roster. So it's a very big deal. The only thing that we do is sales leadership. So just in the same way that companies here go out and find fractional suit CMOs and CFOs and HR and legal and all kinds of resources, they come to us for sales. The tip of the sphere. Chief revenue officer, chief commercial officer, sales level, individuals, professionals. Takes about two, two and a half hours to go through an onboarding process with us. It's pretty rigorous. These are highly vetted executives and on the demand side our clients go from around high six figures a million in revenue to about 60, 70, 80 million in revenue. And no matter the company, no matter the industry that we work in, we see 20 or 30 use cases all the time. It's the same thing transitioning from a founder led sales environment to a sales led sales environment, fixing top of funnel issues, people launching a new product, launching a new division. Every business thinks that they're unique. They are, but they're also not. We've seen the same things anyway, so welcome. Today's Fireside Chat is about scaling smart, how fractional leaders drive big results for growing companies. I am thrilled, we are thrilled to have Shelley Perry here with us as a keynote. Our guest speaker today, Shelly is a operator, investor, board director, consultant and she has, she's one of these people who's been there, done that time and time again. Great perspective with fractionals hiring fractionals, screening them. So this is going to be a great conversation and in a second I'm going to pass my mic over to Shelly and Henning. Henning, as I said, co founder of Bendups, lives in San Luis Obispo, moved from Kansas City where he started the business six years ago. And so I'm going to let themselves introduce themselves yourself. We're going to jump right in 10, 15, 20 minutes of a conversation. Think about your questions, engage. And thanks again for being Here, let's jump right in, please.

  2. By also saying thank you, thank you for coming here. Drink a little bit. But above everything make great connections with other people. That's the purpose of Eden personal life. I spent about 25 years of my career as a sales leader. Started out selling chemicals, software and services within different companies, different geographies, different team sizes, company sizes. About six years ago, I built Vendax to be a matchmaker in the fractional association because I felt that that was something that was missing. There was not an organization out there that was matching or placing sales leaders, fractional sales leaders and had a focus on that particular one. I felt that sales leaders deserved to be represented and not be mixed in with all the other. That's the reason why I live in Ascent, San Luis Obispo. Glad to be here and particularly glad that Shelly volunteered volunteer to be here as our guest and share her experience. Maybe kick it off with Shelly and help you. And I met.

  3. Yes, absolutely. So I. So hi everyone who I have met, Shelly Perry. I was, I worked in software, finance software for most of my career. But in 2016 I, I joined Insight Partners as an operating partner and it was right at the arc of when Insight has started scaling and I was an operating partner. I was the one who went out to all of the companies that were in trouble and no one knew exactly what was wrong with them. And I had to make friends with the CEO and figure out was it a go to market issue, was a product issue, was it a marketing issue, was it an investment thesis issue, all of the above talent issue. And as part of that I had to endear myself to the CEOs and often I was diagnosing the problem and then referring how they could fill these positions and often I am a huge, huge fan of the fractional model for lots of different reasons. But there is a very specific time and place for fractionals and it was very hard to find as Insights started to grow and grow and grow and grow. It was very hard to find right the the fractionals that could meet the growing demand of the case. And I will also say that I am a scale up addict. I will say just a little bit of context.
