Dr. Ana-Maria Temple says if you can't read an ingredient, don't eat it. Stick to packaged foods with five or fewer recognizable ingredients. Longer lists usually mean additives and preservatives you don't need.

  1. If you can't read it, don't eat it. If you have to look something up, like, oh, I wonder what monosodium glutamate is. If you're Googling that, you're putting that product back. So if you can't read it, don't eat it. Okay. As a general rule of thumb, of course we're gonna do some packaged foods. Life is life, right? We're busy. General rule, if it has more than 5 ingredients, is often filled with things, additives that are not gonna be our favorite because they list like one of the top 5 are usually real food a lot of time. And then it gets into the chemicals and the preservatives and the artificial vitamins vitamins that they put in there. So 5 or less ingredients in a bag. If you can't read it, don't eat it.
