Credit repair expert Daniel Rosen explains why disputing a legitimate late payment backfires. When a furnisher confirms the entry is accurate, it entrenches the negative mark and weakens any future dispute attempts, making credit repair harder.

Chapters

  1. The single most dangerous dispute in credit repair. Your client had a rough month last year, they genuinely paid late, the creditor reported it correctly, and there's nothing— no bank record, no billing error, nothing says otherwise. And then somebody disputes it anyways, hoping that it'll just fall through the cracks. Here's why that one is the worst on the list. You're not going to win. The furnisher looks at it, sees an accurate report, confirms it, fine. But now that item has been reviewed and confirmed, and it's more solid than it was before you touched it. And you've told that furnisher in writing that your disputes aren't backed by anything, and every letter you send after that one starts from a worse position. You didn't just lose, you made the rest of your work harder.
